In Gundabad shamans have a very big role, both for the higher end of the ranks, as well as in the lower parts. They're the keepers of history, rituals and traditions. Apart from these they're also the spiritual translators, when the clans wants to communicate with gods, spirits and ancestors In this manner the shamans are very important to the everyday life of the orcs, as they're the link to their beliefs.

Shaman 3

The duties of the shaman in the clans have a lot of variations - it goes from: upholding the rituals which needs to be done every month, to chanting in war, to make the spirits protect his clan along with cleansing unholy places of worship in newly won lands.

In Mount Gundabad the social structure is held together by 12 shamans, also known as the black council. These 12 shamans are especially re-known and very powerful beings, that by some opinions have ascended into demi-god status, and very few orcs dare to step up to their chambers, to seek knowledge or guidance.

Every individual shaman, from the black council or in the clan of Okup Shakamb follows the tradition of taking an apprentice, some more than one. This is usually begun when they've walked their own path alone long enough, and then decide to take on the role of learning others the ways of the spirits. This relationship is often filled with competition, and most of the students tend to strive towards besting their teacher, and taking their reign. As it is common with most things as an orc.

It is widely known that shamans that has been talking to the spirits for many years, have a tendency to get mentally lost, and in that process loses their sanity. This insanity is never spoken of in a negative manner, but rather gains high respect among other shamans and those few orcs that understands what it is.

The Shamans or Shatraugs of Okup Shakamb are a part of the Frûmgrat, and mostly devote themselves to the worship of The Shakhbûrz, or one of the nine evil spirits. There are two kinds of shaman in the Frûmgrat, the Shatraug and the Dushatar.
